Alliance wins increased pension benefits for members in Hawaii, Georgia, and the Mid-Atlantic States

Sandra Flores

On behalf of our 50,000 members, our diligent Alliance leaders review our benefits regularly to make sure they are being implemented correctly. The president of Hawaii Nurses and Healthcare Professionals (HNHP), Maureen Meehan-Golonka, discovered that KP had not implemented the pension multiplier increase correctly. Alliance-represented workers in Hawaii, Georgia, and the Mid-Atlantic States could have lost out on an approximately 3% increase in the dollar value of monthly pension benefits. Originally, KP planned to apply the higher multiplier only to years of service after January 1, 2020.

Because of HNHP’s vigilance, the Alliance raised this issue to KP national leaders, who acted in partnership and resolved the pension improvement.
